1. Introduction to the training program, duration of training, and degree awarded.
1.1. Introduction to the field:
The Materials Engineering program, part of the Faculty of Building Materials, is designed with a comprehensive, multidisciplinary curriculum. Graduates of the Materials Engineering program are equipped with a solid foundation of basic and scientific knowledge in the field, enabling them to understand the fundamentals of major material groups such as ceramics, polymers, composites, inorganic materials, and advanced materials like nanomaterials and thin films – aiming to apply and develop materials fabrication technologies suitable for their structure and properties.
The Materials Engineering program is built on the CDIO (Conceive - Design - Implement - Operate) approach, emphasizing the education of a solid foundation in natural and technical knowledge to enable students to develop from the formation, design, implementation, and operation of ideas. Besides knowledge, the program also focuses on the comprehensive development of personal and professional skills such as teamwork, communication, and leadership skills. Courses are designed to provide students with opportunities for experiential and active learning, fostering self-discovery, learning, and personal development, as well as the ability to quickly adapt to the changes in the modern and dynamic labor market. Furthermore, the Materials Engineering program trains students to have the capacity for technical management and quality management in production facilities, factories, and companies operating in the field of materials engineering. Capable of advising, proposing, leading, and implementing projects on materials technology, serving the economic development of the country.
1.2. Training and certification time:
Graduates are awarded an engineering degree equivalent to level 7 according to the Vietnamese National Qualifications Framework, with a design training period of 5 years.
2. Knowledge and skills acquired after graduation
- Applying fundamental and advanced knowledge of Materials Engineering, technical and management solutions, and professional skills to solve problems related to the research, production, and application of various materials;
- Capable of generating ideas, designing, implementing, and operating complex processes, technologies, and technical systems in the field of materials engineering, such as manufacturing new materials; analyzing the technical requirements and characteristics of materials; researching factors affecting materials and their applications;
- Possesses personal, professional, communication, and teamwork skills, foreign language proficiency, and the ability to write and communicate professionally; has the capacity for creativity and innovative invention to ensure effective work in a dynamic social context and an interdisciplinary, multicultural, and multinational work environment;
- Possessing relevant knowledge of economics, politics, society, and law; having the ability and willingness to commit to ethical professional conduct and social responsibility; and engaging in lifelong learning to make effective contributions to the sustainable development of society and the community;
- Possesses the ability to learn and develop continuously, and the capacity to adapt quickly to career advancement in materials engineering and related professional fields.
3. Scholarship and academic support opportunities
- During their studies, students have the opportunity to participate in internships and visits to research, production, and material usage facilities.
- Students have the opportunity to receive scholarships from organizations and businesses operating in the field of materials, scholarships from alumni of the Faculty of Construction Materials, academic achievement scholarships from Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, etc.
In addition, students have the opportunity to connect with recruiting companies and experience exciting extracurricular activities.
4. Job opportunities
With the rapid and strong development of the materials industry in Vietnam and around the world, job opportunities for graduates will be immense.
With its broad and in-depth training objectives and content, graduates of Materials Engineering are capable of working in a wide range of fields:
- Companies that manufacture and process materials, produce supplies and equipment for civil and industrial use, in the fields of: ceramics, glass, cement; polymer-composite, paint, plastics, chemicals, additives, mineral extraction and processing, etc.
- In companies that import and export raw materials;
- Foreign companies, manufacturers, and distributors of materials that have branches or representative offices in Vietnam;
- Training and scientific research institutions such as schools and institutes in the field of materials science and engineering;
- Agencies responsible for managing and inspecting the quality of raw materials, such as Customs, the Center for Standards, Metrology and Quality, etc.
5. Opportunities for postgraduate studies
Materials engineering is one of the key fields worldwide. Thanks to the relationships between the Department of Construction Materials and its faculty members with universities and research institutes around the world, graduates have the opportunity to apply for scholarships to pursue master's and doctoral degrees in developed countries. Alternatively, students can continue their master's and doctoral studies at Hanoi University of Civil Engineering and other universities in Vietnam that offer materials engineering programs.
