INDUSTRIAL LOGISTICS
Vietnam is accelerating its industrialization and modernization process. Developing logistics to serve the industrial sector is a crucial factor in this process. To meet the general demands of society, Hanoi University of Civil Engineering will enroll students in a new major – Industrial Logistics – in 2025. This major combines logistics and production management in industry.
The demand for logistics personnel in the industrial sector.
Logistics plays a crucial and indispensable role in the production, circulation, and distribution of goods. Designing and managing an effective logistics system helps businesses accurately and promptly understand customer needs, facilitating the smooth flow of goods, money, and information from suppliers, manufacturers, transporters, and warehouses through wholesale and retail distribution channels to the end consumer. This helps reduce costs, satisfy customer needs, and enhance brand awareness.
According to forecasts by the Vietnam Logistics Research and Development Institute, by 2030, the logistics industry in Vietnam will need an additional 2.2 million personnel, including approximately 200,000 high-quality professionals with professional qualifications, skills, and foreign language proficiency. Meanwhile, only about 5,000 students graduate from training institutions each year. With such high demand for human resources, this field still has much room for further expansion and, especially, for improving the quality of training through cooperation and linkages between domestic and international universities.
“The logistics industry is currently developing very rapidly, utilizing many modern technologies, especially in serving the industrial sector. Students studying this field have great job opportunities, but it also requires students to have a broad knowledge and skills base, good foreign language skills, and proactive creativity in their work.”

Vietnam is striving to become a developed country with a modern industrial sector and a high-middle income by 2030. The scale of industrial production in Vietnam has continuously increased, with an average industrial growth rate of 7.16% during the 2016-2020 period, and a 4.05% increase in 2021 despite the strong impact of the pandemic. Vietnam is accelerating industrial production development in 2024, aiming for an Industrial Production Index (IIP) increase of approximately 7-8% compared to 2023. By the end of 2020, Vietnam had 381 industrial parks. By 2030, according to the draft National Land Use Planning Report for the period 2021-2030 with a vision to 2050, Vietnam will have approximately 177 new industrial parks. Vietnam aims for the industrial sector to account for over 40% of GDP by 2030. To promote industrial development, the logistics industry plays a crucial role.
The relationship between logistics and industrial production:
The main goal of effective logistics management is to reduce costs by managing traffic, production time, and forecasting demand. Besides cost reduction, logistics management also requires maintaining optimal inventory levels for faster production rates. Inventory management is a vital component of logistics and depends on two factors: forecasting customer demand and factory demand. For forecasting customer demand, logistics managers need to conduct thorough research and market analysis to understand consumer needs and accordingly plan orders with production centers and suppliers. On the other hand, in the case of factory demand, production managers need to understand material costs and plan material requirements for the production process, while determining the necessary inventory levels and stock to maintain production flow.
Logistics is at the core of a smoothly functioning organization; a company cannot thrive without logistics management. Real-time inventory management, raw material and product sourcing, expenditure tracking, production line visibility, material movement monitoring, etc., are effective solutions for logistics management. This helps eliminate overhead costs, improve cost efficiency, and achieve a competitive advantage.
Industrial Logistics specialization aims to enhance productivity and product quality based on science and technology. However, the productivity and quality of Industrial Logistics are at the system level, not just limited to technology and equipment. In today's highly competitive and integrated environment, manufacturing, service, supply chain, international business model development, and multinational corporations offer numerous career opportunities. Many domestic businesses indicate a need for personnel proficient in both production management and logistics.
Those working in this field...Industrial logistics requires understanding the factory's production process; forecasting demand, managing, and operating the flow of raw materials and products smoothly and efficiently. Therefore, specialized training in Industrial Logistics is essential to meet the demands of the country's industrialization and modernization revolution.

Launching a new major: Industrial Logistics
