ECO-FRIENDLY HOUSE MODEL USING COMPRESSED STRAW BALES

INTRODUCTION OF THE PROJECT "ECO-FRIENDLY HOUSE MODEL USING COMPRESSED STRAW BAGS" - RESULT OF THE REBUMAT PROJECT ON: RESOURCE-EFFICIENT CONSTRUCTION AND SUSTAINABLE USE OF BUILDING MATERIALS.
On May 17, 2024, within the framework of the cooperation program between Hanoi University of Civil Engineering and Lubeck University of Technology, Germany, the eco-friendly house model using compressed straw bales was introduced to experts, scientists, and students of Hanoi University of Civil Engineering. This is the result of the ReBuMat Project on "Resources - Efficient and Sustainable Use of Building Materials," and the process of building this model house will be demonstrated at the Ha Nam Campus 2 of Hanoi University of Civil Engineering.

Attending the project presentation were Prof. Dr. Dirk Schwede - Lübeck University of Technology, Germany; representatives from the Fraunhofer Institute of Building Physics (IBP), the Cambodian Institute of Technology, the Institute of Building Materials - Ministry of Construction, the Vietnam Green Building Council, and representatives from the contractor: Smart Solutions Vietnam Investment Joint Stock Company. Representing Hanoi University of Civil Engineering were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoang Giang - Vice Rector; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Tuan - Project Leader; Dr. Nguyen Tien Dung - Head of International Cooperation Department; along with scientists and lecturers who are members of the ReBuMat Project.
Vietnam, with its advantage as a world leader in rice exports, generates a huge volume of agricultural waste annually. The ReBuMat project on "Resources - Efficient Use of Sustainable Building Materials," undertaken by experts from the University of Lübeck and the Fraunhofer Institute for Engineering Physics, Germany, has supported the development of sustainable and resource-efficient building materials for partners in Vietnam. Based on the project's research results, the first environmentally friendly house model using compressed straw bales in Vietnam, developed with the support of German experts, is now available. The straw, collected and processed after rice harvesting, is used as a building material for walls and roofs, based on a wood structure. The treated materials are fire-retardant, moisture-resistant, soundproof, heat-insulating, and provide comfort for users.
This project will be used long-term for research and technology transfer as a significant scientific product of the cooperation between Hanoi University of Civil Engineering and Lubeck University of Technology. It is hoped that after this first project, many more projects will be built, contributing to the efficient use of agricultural waste products in Vietnam.
