Meeting with the Institute of Industrial Ceramics and Glass Research

BTT - Department of Building Materials

On November 7, 2022, a working session took place at the Institute of Industrial Ceramics and Glass Research between the Institute's leadership and the Faculty of Building Materials. Representing the Institute were Dr. Chu Van Giap - Director and MSc. Mai Van Duong - Vice Director. Representing the Faculty of Building Materials were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Vinh Long - Head of Faculty, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Van Viet Thien An - Deputy Head of Faculty, and Dr. Nguyen Nhan Hoa - Deputy Head of the Department of Building Materials Technology.
During the meeting, Dr. Chu Van Giap introduced some aspects of the Institute of Industrial Ceramics and Glass Research. The Institute is a unit under the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam. The Institute has a prominent strength in the field of ceramics. In recent years, the Institute has shifted from the field of consumer and artistic ceramics to technical ceramics and the deep processing of raw materials serving the industrial ceramics and glass industry. The Institute is certified by the Ministry of Industry and Trade for testing activities and is accredited by the Vietnam Accreditation Office as conforming to ISO/IEC 17025:2017. The Institute possesses a modern laboratory equipment system capable of performing over 30 chemical and mechanical tests on raw materials, ceramic and glass products, and analytical and testing systems. In addition, the Institute actively promotes technology transfer and product development.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Vinh Long also briefly introduced Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, one of seven universities in Vietnam to achieve international accreditation standards; and the Faculty of Building Materials, a unit with over 55 years of training tradition, currently responsible for training in Building Materials Technology, Materials Engineering, and Building Materials specialization under the Vietnam-France Talented Engineers Program (PFEIV). The Faculty of Building Materials is a unit with strengths in scientific research and technology transfer. In particular, ceramic and glass materials are among the main areas of focus in both training and research.
During the exchange, both sides identified many common interests and potential areas for collaboration. Leaders from both sides agreed that they could soon cooperate in guiding students from the Faculty to conduct scientific research and develop graduation projects at the Institute; they will also hold further meetings to define more specific areas of cooperation.
