Cooperation Discussion with the Institute of Tropical Technology

BTT - Department of Building Materials

To concretize the cooperation activities under the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between Hanoi University of Civil Engineering (HUCE) and the Institute of Tropical Engineering (ITE) - Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, a working session was held on November 3, 2022, at the ITE between the Institute's leadership and staff and the Faculty of Building Materials - HUCE. Representing the ITE were Prof. Dr. Tran Dai Lam - Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Vu Giang - Vice Director, and heads and deputy heads of the Institute's research departments. Representing the Faculty of Building Materials were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Vinh Long - Head of the Faculty, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Van Viet Thien An, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Lam - Vice Heads of the Faculty, Dr. Nguyen Trong Lam - Head of the Department of Building Materials Technology, and Dr. Bui Thi Thanh Huyen - lecturer in the Department of Chemistry.

The Faculty of Building Materials delegation held discussions with the leaders of the Institute of Tropical Engineering.

During the meeting, Professor Tran Dai Lam highly appreciated the training and research activities of Hanoi University of Civil Engineering and strongly supported the implementation of cooperation contents as agreed in the Memorandum of Understanding between the two units on October 14, 2020.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Vu Giang introduces the Institute of Tropical Technology.

Associate Professor  Dr. Nguyen Vu Giang introduced some of the strengths and main research and technology transfer directions of the Institute of Tropical Engineering. The Institute has a diverse and modern system of laboratory equipment serving research, training, and providing services for evaluating, analyzing, and testing various tropical materials. In addition, the Institute has tropical testing stations under climatic conditions at different latitudes (Hanoi, Vinh Phuc, Quang Ninh, Nha Trang, Quang Binh...) and a seawater material testing buoy in Quang Ninh. Dr. Giang and the heads and deputy heads of specialized departments also shared the topics and projects that the Institute has been and is currently undertaking in the recent period.
Associate Professor Hoang Vinh Long also introduced the Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, one of the seven universities in Vietnam to achieve international accreditation; and the Faculty of Building Materials, a unit with a tradition of over 55 years of training, currently responsible for training in Building Materials Technology, Materials Engineering, and the Building Materials specialization under the Vietnam-France Talented Engineers Program (PFEIV). Materials Engineering is a new training program, having enrolled three cohorts to date, primarily focusing on three areas of materials: ceramic materials, inorganic materials, and polymer composite materials. The Faculty of Building Materials also has strengths in scientific research and technology transfer. The faculty members also discussed the research directions currently being implemented within the Faculty.

The Faculty of Building Materials held discussions with the Institute of Tropical Engineering.

During the exchange, both sides identified many common interests, particularly in areas such as: waste treatment from factories; research and development of polymer composite materials; anti-corrosion coatings for metals; heat-resistant and fire-retardant paints; nanomaterials, antimicrobial materials, and adsorbent materials for environmental treatment...
The leaders of both sides agreed to strengthen coordination in training and scientific research, initially, (1) regarding training: the Institute of Materials Science and Technology will create conditions for students of the Materials Engineering major to visit and intern; (2) regarding scientific research: staff from both sides can jointly guide students in conducting scientific research and develop it into graduation projects at the Institute. At the same time, the Institute of Materials Science and Technology and the Faculty of Building Materials will continue to have working sessions to more specifically determine the contents of further cooperation. In addition, the leaders of the Institute of Materials Science and Technology especially hope that Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, as an institution with many business partners, can promote tripartite cooperation between the University - Institute - Businesses, to bring the training and research products of the University and the Institute into practice.
The exchange was successful with many promises of cooperation in training and scientific research in the future.
