Academic Exchange between Faculty of Building Materials and Professor from Lyon 1 University - France
On December 13, 2022, in room 305, Building A1, the Department of Building Materials and several experts from the Department of Civil and Industrial Construction collaborated with a research team from Lyon 1 University (Republic of France) to organize a specialized workshop on the mechanical properties and applications of composite materials and the long-term durability of ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC).
The delegation from Lyon 1 University included Professor Vu Xuan Hong and Professor Thomas Sanchez from the LMC2 Laboratory (The Laboratory of Composite Materials for Construction). Also present at the meeting were Dr. Nguyen Tien Dung – Head of the International Cooperation Department; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Vinh Long – Head of the Faculty of Building Materials; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Lam – Deputy Head of the Faculty of Building Materials; and numerous lecturers from the University of Construction.
To begin, Professor Vu Xuan Hong presented on "Characteristics and Applications of Composite Materials in the Construction Industry," providing the latest research results related to fire resistance, heat resistance, and structural repair applications. Following this, Professor Thomas Sanchez presented research on modeling the long-term durability of cement-based materials, including ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC). The workshop was a great success, with enthusiastic support from the University of Civil Engineering, the Faculty of Building Materials, the International Cooperation Office, and especially attracting the participation of faculty members from the University.
Here are some photos from the get-together:

The exchange was very effective, with many lively academic discussions, opening up many avenues for research and cooperation between the two universities in the future.

During their working visit to Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, the two professors also had a meeting with high-quality PFIEV students and presented some content related to materials and structures in heat-resistant construction and construction exposed to corrosive environments.
