Programme Educational Objectives and Programme Learning Outcomes

1. PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

1.1. Overall Objectives
The Materials Engineering Programme aims to educate engineers who:

  • Possess strong ethical, professional, and civic qualities, solid foundational knowledge, and the ability to engage in lifelong learning;
  • Are equipped with the necessary knowledge, skills, and professional attributes, grounded in a broad theoretical foundation and in-depth practical experience, enabling them to lead and guide the processes of conceiving, designing, implementing, and operating systems and technologies in the field of materials science and engineering;
  • Demonstrate broad disciplinary knowledge, research competence, and independent and creative thinking, allowing them to adapt to demanding production and professional environments that require a high level of expertise, professional responsibility, and commitment to community service, contributing to sustainable national development and international integration.

1.2. Specific Objectives:
The Programme aims to produce graduates who:

  •  Possess comprehensive and advanced theoretical and practical knowledge in materials science and engineering, together with interdisciplinary knowledge in materials, chemistry, and environmental science, meeting the requirements of integrated, modern, and sustainable development;
  • Demonstrate in-depth professional skills in the field of materials science and engineering;
  • Are capable of analysing, synthesising, and evaluating data and information; applying critical and creative thinking to the production and application of materials; and leading and guiding the processes of conceiving, designing, implementing, and operating materials production systems, thereby improving the efficiency and effectiveness of materials manufacturing and application;
  • Possess leadership and management competencies to design, develop, operate, and manage systems, products, and projects, including entrepreneurial and start-up activities, in the field of materials science and technology.

2. PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES

Graduates of the Engineering Programme in Materials Science and Engineering are expected to meet the learning outcomes corresponding to Level 7 of the Vietnamese National Qualifications Framework (VNQF), as follows:

2.1. Knowledge
PLO1. Possess advanced and in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge to identify, analyse, and solve problems in the field of materials science and engineering.
PLO2. Demonstrate mastery of materials manufacturing processes and technologies, including the effective operation and adjustment of production technologies, and the enhancement of materials utilization efficiency.
PLO3. Possess interdisciplinary knowledge in materials science, chemistry, and environmental science, meeting the requirements of integrated, modern, and sustainable development.
PLO4. Possess fundamental knowledge of administration and management relevant to engineering practice.
 
2.2. Skills
PLO5. Apply analytical reasoning, problem identification, and problem-solving skills in materials science and engineering contexts.
PLO6. Demonstrate skills in experimental design, statistical methods, and data analysis.
PLO7. Communicate effectively in oral, written, and visual forms in both academic and professional environments.
PLO8. Communicate and disseminate research-based knowledge, and discuss professional and technical issues with colleagues and relevant stakeholders.
PLO9. Demonstrate leadership and teamwork skills, including the ability to organise, administer, and manage production and application activities in the field of materials science and technology.
PLO10. Apply systems thinking, creativity, and innovation in the processes of idea generation, design, implementation, and operation in materials manufacturing and application.
PLO11. Demonstrate the ability for lifelong learning and adaptability in multidisciplinary and multicultural working environments, particularly in the context of Industry 4.0 and globalization.
PLO12. Use a foreign language proficiently in professional contexts, achieving a proficiency level equivalent to Level 4/6 of the Vietnamese Foreign Language Proficiency Framework.
 
2.3. Autonomy and Responsibility
PLO13. Identify and uphold ethical and professional responsibilities in materials science and technology, contributing to environmental protection and sustainable development.
PLO14. Demonstrate initiative, creativity, and an entrepreneurial mindset in professional practice.
PLO15. Demonstrate political awareness, civic responsibility, good health, and the ability to meet the requirements of national construction and defence.
 PLO16. Possess political theory knowledge in accordance with the general education requirements prescribed by the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET)
